To demonstrate the power of mentioned Viking in the last post I have his remix of current singing songwriting rap pop queen Amanda Blank that landed today on rcrdlbl. Track is ‘Shame on Me’ and Viking shows a softer side with this housy club beat going on, this is definitly one for the floors. Absolutely love it, especially the bouncy bassline!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. If I only had a penny for every The Sounds remix I find in my email.. No One Sleeps When I’m Awake seems to be a hot topic nowadays, and the last remix I featured was the brilliant one by VIKING. This latest edition is a bouncy late summer vibe remix done by Chicago based La Dolce Vita that truly deserves it’s own post. The jumpy synths and the beautiful chopping really takes Majas vocals to another dimension, and damn, I think this is my favourite so far. Enjoy it first on Dödselectro!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. First off. Is it Pj the viking or just plain Viking?
It started out as PJtheVIKING but I decided to shorten it to straight up VIKING after dealing with countless amounts of confusion and formatting issues.
And what started Vikings electro dance spree?
I’ve always been in bands forever and before I took this on as my main focus, I was in a dance-punk band called The Drugstore Cowboys. We had toured with and played a lot of shows with many other electronic acts and I saw what they were doing and really took a liking to it. I had always made electronic based tracks, but I started to tighten up the sound and get serious with it.Your remixes has grown quite popular world wide, everybody loves a viking remix! How do you choose what to work with? Favourite tunes of yours? or is it some genius hit-sensation-instinct talking?
Haha, well honestly, the Kid Cudi track was luck. I was checking some acapella blogs that I do frequently, and saw the acapella for Dat New New, and honestly just went into auto-pilot mode and got the remix done in about 3 days. When I was listening to the final version, I was extremely excited, but never thought it would blow up the way it did. I’m just really thankful to everyone that has been so receptive to it and the amount of videos for it on youtube now is pretty mind blowing.
Any acts or producers in the same scene that inspires you?
At the moment, I’m blown away by Mustard Pimp, LAZRTAG, DiscoTech/Sr. Stereo, and Barletta. They are all definitely huge inspirations to me. As far as bands go, I’m still stuck on all the stuff I listened to pre-dance music; Keepsake, Jawbreaker, Mineral, etc. You’re quite new on the scene, but all ready have you grown a reputation, other than new remixes what can we expect from viking in the future?
I’m currently working on releasing a single with Subdrive which is slated for late summer/early fall, and I just finished up two remixes for The Sounds, and Cazals, which I’m excited about. I’m just trying to play out as much as possible and spread the word. I’m graduating college this year which makes it a little more tricky to prioritize everything, but i’ve been able to keep a handle on things so far.Your bassline sound is just impressive massiveness. What is the secret ingredient? Is it the hammer of Thor?
It’s the sound from Trogdor’s muscular arm extending from the back of his neck slamming on a midi controller harder than any peasant he’s ever burninated.Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Viking and CJ Milli made this mash up tribute to Michael Jackson this morning. Bag Raiders ‘Shooting Stars’ up against the acapella from MJ’s ‘You Are Not Alone’. Epic combo. Posted by Tobias on Jun.26, 2009 7 CommentsI just woke up from one of those nights being quite sick, having weird dreams and waking up every hour. After gathering enough power to crawl to the computer I pretty much begged for some sweet music in the mailbox to kickstart me. That’s where Terror Dactel comes in. Just watching the coverart assured me that I would be alert and going in just minutes. In the mail I found two songs, one remix of LMFAO’s La La La and one of his own songs. A quick listen and poff, the sickness is gone.
The remix actually just had it’s world-premier on a live set with VIKING and Chromeo just last weekend at New York’s Webster Hall. According to the soul behind Terror Dactel the song got a great respons from the crowd and I don’t doubt that. The song is pretty damn great! The smooth hiphop-like beats followed by the rough bassline and with the sweet original sounds of LMFAO ought to be a crowd pleaser.

He also sent me one of his own tracks with the following message:
“And if you missed it, you can pick up my debut-single “DTF” exclusively on JUNO with Premium Stems! People can remix the tune and submit it until June 20th, so let the folks know to send their remixes in at www.subdrive.net! If the label digs their remix, they’ll release it and give them a cut from the sales.”
Quite nice ehy? And as always, check out his MySpace and give him some love. Anyhow, here’s the track:

I’m a sucker for remixes of all these mainstream artists like Britney and Lady Gaga. I fucking love it when I hear one with a fat bassline. CJ Milli just droped this one on me, she’s from Richmond Virginia, spins the turntables and apparently she did some remixes along a few originals. Here’s the thing, I listened to her ‘Just Dance’ remix and when the bassline came in I thought of Viking, who Viktor posted about here a while back. It resembles his sound, so I just had to ask him if there was a connection. He told me just now that CJ is his girlfriend and that they live together, just brilliant. So here we are, viking chick brings us a heavy hammerin’ remix of Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’.

I like it, allthough it deserves a proper mastering. Check out CJ Milli on myspace and listen to her other tracks.
Posted by Tobias on Apr.17, 2009 19 CommentsI always tend to feel a little gloomy at the beginning of each week, tired of the same old day-to-day routines. And nothing cheers me up as a tight, really danceable, remix like the one VIKING recently released. A really fresh bass line and Akons distinctive voice, obviously a winning concept as the remix already reached second on Hypemachine. I don’t know why, but somehow Akon always sounds a lot better remixed, and this is no exception. And when VIKING puts his personal touch on the song it triggers something inside me. An urge to dance away on crowded floors as the DJ spins this tune. But I’ll probably end up playing this song on repeat all night. Every single beat, every word, it all fells so damn… right.
And as if this wasn’t enough, there’s another really sweet remix of Kid Cudi’s Dat New New. A somewhat rougher approach with distorted bass and a neat synth sneaking up as the bass drops. Hope you enjoy this, I know I do!
