Nostalgia #1: Danger

The man that got me into the whole electro scene, who has some of the most dedicated fans around the world, and who’s one of the reasons I started this blog in the first place. I’m talking about Danger guys. Franck Rivoire is his real name and he’s truly one of the pioneers on the french electronic scene. Inspired by retro video game sounds and music, especially the Amiga, he started out as a guy (among many) who was producing chip tunes in the amiga demo scene. Eventually he found his distinct dance-electro-soundtrack style and made a breakthrough late 2006 and released his first EP in 2007.

The image that has been created around this fictional character ‘Danger’ involves a lot of mystery, pyramids, dates and time (His albums are named after dates, and all his tracks are different times of day and night). Franck also makes all his art surrounding this himself, he’s really a multi-talented genius.

He was the first of his kind making music like this, and many producers followed and went for the same sound. I remember this because I had a lot of emails back then with new producers that sent me tracks they wanted me to blog, and sure some was worth mentioning but overall it got pretty tiring as nothing came close to Danger and were just poor copies.

Two more EP’s has come out, in 2009 and 2010, both containing a new approach where he’s evolved his sound even further and in a different direction. For the longest time there has been talk about a full length album, I’ve followed his every move here on deathelectro and there has been many posts with just pure speculations. Still waiting for that album..

When we last discussed this, he told me that he has several new tracks waiting to be put out. Wether it will be a new EP or an album, he said he wasn’t sure.

The track that got it started for me back then in 2007 is ‘11h30‘ taken off his debut ep, and it’s probably the track he is most known for among the hardcore fans. Throughout his career he’s also produced official remixes for several big names in the music industry. Among them are remixes for Black Eyed Peas, Estelle ft. Kanye West, La Roux and Nero. My personal favourite Danger remix though, is the SymbolOne – Love Juice Remix.

I’ve had the chance to meet Danger several times and just last year I finally booked him for my own club night here in Gothenburg, here’s a video of that party. He’s the nicest guy, and we mainly end up talking about retro video games and cheesy 80′s action movies. We both like Arnold Schwarzenegger and funny thing is I made a video with terminator clips and his track ’4H30′ way back, just for giggles, and Franck liked it so much he started a thing called a bostleg tournament.

If you ask me who’s my favorite dj/producer out there, well there you have it. Danger. If you by chance missed out on his music, just get right into it, you won’t be disappointed. And if you’re already a fan like me, I hope this article made you go back to some of his tunes and fall in love with them again.

I’ve put together a Danger playlist for you on Spotify. Enjoy.

  1. Man Tobias, following this blog since December 2008 its most certainly all the Danger, Edwin van Cleef, Mille etc post that made this my fav blog! Keep up the good work guys!

  2. Right on. I saw Danger in Boston a few years back and he killed it!

The first of Danger’s work I heard was his remix of We Are Scientists’ Chick Lit. Still one of my most favorite remixes. No one comes close to pulling off his sound.

  3. i’ve had an obsession with Danger for years, so glad to see his name still floats around

mad props for making that terminator video – had no idea it was you. at least 50 views of it must be mine.

  4. Couldn’t agree more – Danger (and in particular his remix of Love Juice) is the main reason I got in to electro. Fingers crossed for an album.
