Not too long ago we featured The Golden Pony and their massive remix of a Beastie Boys classic… Check here if you missed it. Today we’ve got a couple really cool new things from the Brooklyn duo: A fresh electro-funk (my favorite!) remix and an interview with the gents. Check out their take on “Under Volcanoes” and let’s get to it.

DE (HOUDINI): Tell us about The Golden Pony project and who you guys are as individuals. What’s a day in the life like?

The Golden Pony: The Golden Pony is about creating a party with block rocking beats. In our studio do most of our work around one main midi keyboard/computer work station. We both have chairs that roll, so when one of us gets an idea the other one rolls out of the way and he rolls up to the station and starts making sounds. We have become very efficient at switching places by rolling, and during a full day session this happens probably 30-40 times. Its somewhere between efficient and lazy.

Who are your biggest influences as an artist?

People who are influencing us are those who bring fresh sounds into dance music that would not be possible with out modern computer programs… Koan Sound, Bingo players, Claude Von stroke, Knife party, Dillon Francis are a few that we love.

What’s it like being musicians on the grind in Brooklyn?

Cheap beer, no bras, cutoff shorts. One of the bonuses for putting up with the outrageous rent is that there are so many talented people involved in the arts in such a small area. When we go to do a video this fall, i have friends who are up and coming directors, cinematographers, stylists, make up artists, photographers, and more who are willing to pitch in when your doing a project.

What’s the next step for you? More releases? Touring? Videos?

We are currently working on a pretty extensive visual show for our live dj sets. Were building a giant life size version of our Pegasus logo to do projection mapping on, and also creating illuminated costumes for our dancers.

We have a number of remix’s in the works, and we are planning on doing a release every 2 weeks for the rest of the year, while we do the rounds playing live at Brooklyn and NYC Electro parties.

What’s the craziest show you’ve played? Tell us about some of the weirdest, coolest, funniest things you’ve seen in the business.

We DJ’d a show at an NYC underground party were there was a live sex act afterwards! They definately stole the show!
